Arthur J. Evenson

BRIDGER - Arthur J. "Art" Evenson, 89, of Bridger, passed away Friday, June 20, 2003, at the Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center, Laurel.

He was a son of Julius and Anna Evenson, born March 7, 1914, at Walker, Minn.

He came to Montana in 1952 to log in the West Fork area of the Gallatin Canyon, now known as Big Sky.

He was a cook in many of the local hotels and restaurants in the Bozeman area, he also had been an employee of the Idaho Pole Co. in Bozeman for 13 years.

He loved to play the accordion, organ and harmonica and he loved the out doors and nature.

He married Jane Frances Hurley in 1934 and was later divorced; she preceded him in death in 1994. He married Louise VanNice in 1977 and she preceded him in death. In 1994 he married Della Jordan and she survives him. Other family members that survive are his children, Agnes (John) Walczak of Calimesa, Calif., Kay (Ken) Mayfield of Hartville, Mo., Carol (Jerry) Jones of Fromberg, Arthur (Barbara) Evanson, Jr. of Belgrade, Julius Evanson of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Myron (Karen) Evanson or Three Forks; one sister, Agnes Dighton of Red Bluff, Calif.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, at Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel. Interment will be in the Akeley Cemetery, Akeley, Minn.
