GREYBULL, Wyo. - Longtime Greybull resident Barbara Nanita Rech, age 82, passed away at the Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin, with her family at her side.
Barbara was born in Helena on Dec. 18, 1931, to Dorman Schaeffer and Sibyl Ann Sherlock Schaeffer Stout. She lived her first five years in Helena. She moved to Lewistown in 1936, where she attended high school through the 10th grade. In 1948, she moved to Billings and she finished her senior year at Billings Senior High School in 1949. She loved music, was a member of the high school choir and was a majorette. She attended Eastern Montana College and transferred to Montana State College in Bozeman. She was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority.
She met her husband, Ed Rech, when she sang for his fraternity. She also sang several solos for the sorority and in the MSU College Choir.
Barbara married Ed Rech in 1952 in Billings. To this union were born Jake, Jock and Julie.
Barbara continued her love of music as a member of the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Basin and was instrumental in finding a pipe organ that is now installed in St. Andrew's. She also sang as a soloist for community events and was a member of the Georgia Coyne Can Can Girls Dance Group. She was a member and past president of P.E.O. Chapter F in Greybull.
She is preceded in death by one son, Jock Rech.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Ed Rech of Greybull; her son, Jake Rech of Taipei, Taiwan; and her daughter, Julie Rech of Thornton, Colo. Barbara's sister, Patricia Knopp, resides in Seattle, Washington.
A viewing will be held on Monday, Aug. 11, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull.
A graveside service will be held at the Odessa Cemetery in Shell on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow the service at the Odessa Cemetery.
Memorials in Barbara's name will be received at Bank of Greybull, 601 Greybull Ave., Greybull, and will benefit the Odessa Cemetery or the donor may give to the charity of their choice.
Atwood Family Funeral Directors Inc. assisted the family with arrangements.
