WOLF POINT ? Betty Lou Peterson, age 77, of Wolf Point, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was able to enter the gates of her Heavenly Home with her family by her side in Billings.
Betty Lou Peterson was born on March 31, 1927, in Mayville, N.D., to Halfdan and Minnie Gilbertson. She attended school in North Dakota and later moved to Bagley, Minn., where she graduated from high school. She attended Teacher Training School in Grand Forks, N.D. Following Teacher Training, Betty taught in rural county schools out of Grand Forks. In 1948, she went west to Montana to teach at Volt School north of Wolf Point. During this time, she met and fell in love with Robert Peterson, who she later married on April 7, 1949.
Bob and Betty made their home 28 miles north of Wolf Point on the family farm. Betty was a woman of strong faith and lived her life accordingly. She was raised and lived her life with the belief to be caring, loving and kind to others. Betty was always there for her children by being a loving and attentive mother. She enjoyed raising a garden, canning, baking, reading, dancing, crocheting rugs and afghans. Betty also had a love for antiques and enjoyed collecting them. Her Norwegian baked goods were always a favorite. Betty had a twinkle in her eyes and made many happy memories for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
Betty was preceded in death by her sons, Wayne and Arne Peterson; her parents and brother, Harlan Gilbertson.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Peterson; her son, Wesley Peterson (Siri); daughter Margie Prokop (Ron). Her grandchildren are Dirk (Alanna) Peterson, Andrea Peterson, Garrett, Logan, and Carson Prokop; and great-grandson Brendan Peterson.
The family would like to thank Big Sky Hospice, Dr. Tom Purcell, Deaconess Hospital and staff who gave excellent care to Betty. Also, a heartfelt thank you to all friends and relatives for your letters and calls.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Wolf Point on Friday, Feb. 4, at 3 p.m. Inurnment will follow at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
