Charles Hammond Obituary
He began life, in his words, as "a pup in the great cosmic dog kennel", on May 12, 1948 in Billings, Montana. He grew up in Absarokee and Fishtail, Montana, earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Montana State University in 1979 and then his Juris Doctor from the University of Montana in 1980. His professional journey led him to work at the Mobil Oil Refinery in Ferndale, Washington, before embarking on a distinguished career with Saudi Aramco, first as an engineer and then a lawyer. After 25 years in the Middle East, he retired to Sonoita, Arizona in 2001.
He was a man of many talents and interests, and monikers. A gifted woodworker and welder, he also found joy in writing and creating stained glass art. He loved eating and helped build a fine dining establishment at the local stables in Saudi Arabia, appropriately named the "Chuckwagon." Chuck was passionate about current events and politics, loud music, skiing, traveling, biking and hiking, and cherished time spent with his family, friends and pets. Known for his wit, intelligence and thoughtful nature, Chuck had a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He was charming and funny-always ready for a spirited debate or a joke-and committed to causes close to his heart, including environmental conservation.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janis (Larson) Hammond; daughter, Aspen Hammond; son-in-law Justin Ginnetti; granddaughters Sophie and Josephine; brothers Richard and Robert Hammond; and brother-in-law, Douglas Larson; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, William Grant Hammond and Betty Lorraine (Mack) Hammond.
Charles was a member of Harvest Fellowship in Sonoita, Arizona. A memorial service will be held in Tucson in October 2025.

We will miss his stories, jokes and company. He takes a piece of us with him but our lives are better from knowing him. May his memory continue to inspire all who were touched by his life.

I remember Chuck and even recognized his photo! I worked with him in the late 70´s in Custer National Forest, Nye. He taught me how to make Indian curry and think of him when I make it! RIP Chuck
