Claudia Reitz Obituary

Claudia Reitz

January 4, 1951 - August 21, 2025

Claudia Louise Reitz, 74, of Billings, passed away peacefully of a viral infection on August 21, 2025 surrounded by family and friends.

Claudia was born on January 4, 1951, in New York, where her father, Cleve Reitz, worked as a professional musician at Radio City Music Hall and her mother, Norma (Hoy) Reitz, served as a traveling nurse. They married in Billings, where they raised their family. Claudia was the oldest child and beloved big sister to her four brothers - Steven, John, Sandy, and Charles.

Claudia's childhood was filled with adventures across the street at Terry Park, where endless days were spent swimming, ice skating, and playing every game imaginable involving a ball. She was a proud Girl Scout and spent many cherished summers at Red Lodge camps, where her mother served as camp nurse.

The twins, Janet and Jane, met Claudia at nine years old at Terry Park. They were best friends from that time on until her passing. They attended elementary, junior high, and high school together. She also competed in AAU Track in junior high school.

Claudia attended all Billings schools, graduating in 1969 from Billings Senior High School. Claudia was an outstanding athlete involved in track and field and softball. Claudia's talents extended beyond athletics. She played the piano and flute, performing in her high school band, and she had a deep appreciation for music.

One of the highlights of Claudia's life was playing softball. She had a natural ability and was an asset to any team she played on. In high school, she began playing competitive softball on King's Softball team winning many championships on the State, Regional level and went to National Softball Tournaments twice and was inducted into the MT State Softball Hall of Fame.

Claudia attended Montana State University in Bozeman and participated in volleyball, basketball, and fast-pitch softball. She began her career teaching physical education at Great Falls CMR High School, where she coached Track and Field and Girl's Basketball. She continued her softball career on another winning team, the Sponsor's.

Claudia returned to Billings, deciding to change careers and went to Philadelphia for para-legal school. After graduating from para-legal school, she returned to Billings and was hired by Brown Law Firm, that began three and a half decades working for Steve Harman. Steve became her boss, mentor, teacher, and close friend. She retired in the beginning of 2016.

Janet and Claudia began acquiring rental property and it turned into a business venture. As Janet's parents helped them get started in the business. They acquired numerous rentals over the years, tirelessly working at fixing and cleaning them up.

After retirement, Claudia enjoyed spending time with family and friends traveling, camping, four-wheeling, and golfing often with her brother John. One of her favorite summer get a ways was spending time at the Ensign Cabin on Swan Lake. Claudia also loved going to Palm Springs in March to play golf and watch the Professional Tennis Tournament. She also became very passionate about politics.

Claudia was preceded in death by her parents, Norma and Cleve Reitz. She is survived by her partner Janet Henman; her brothers Steve "Wooly" (Paula) Reitz, John (Sheri) Reitz, Sandy Reitz, and Charles (Teri) Reitz; as well as Anner Marble; numerous nieces and nephews and a great niece and nephews; Jane Henman, Donna Oster, Peggy Ensign, and countless other sisters.

Claudia was a shining light whose generosity, kindness and compassion, blessed all who knew her. She had a gift for bringing family and friends together. Earlier today

So sorry to hear of Claudia´s passing. I´ve known Her since 1966, meant her in High School! She was always so much fun, always up, laughing, and joking around. She was a bridesmaid in my wedding in 1969, she must have been good luck because I´m still married to the same person! I know she will be missed

Claud was a part of my growing up history. In our younger days, our paths intersected in Scouts, track, and softball. Despite years between more recent contacts, there was never a pause in our friendship. In more recent years, we enjoyed camping and four wheeling together with the Muddy Udders. I will always remember Claud as a passionate and positive person with a ready smile and an easy laugh. She was an inspiration to me and countless others. I will miss my friend. Love and blessings to the Reitz family and all of Claud´s many, many dear friends.

It was so sad to hear of Claudia`s passing. Although I have not seen Claudia in years, I have so many special and fond memories. We graduated from MSU together. I witness Claudia`s drive in any of the athletic activities. She was involved with and in the classroom and as a fellow team mate on the MSU women´s basketball team early and its development. She was such a star as a softball player for Kings Mountain shop enjoyed watching and playing against her. We had a lot of good times in college not all in the classroom. We did have some fun times out and about. As I remember her as such a great person, and I know she made this a better world, but one thing it really stands out for me besides, all of her heart and drive was that wonderful smile. You always saw her with that smile, RIP Claudia.

I was so saddened to hear about Claudia's passing. I only knew her for about 5 years and we met during one of her yearly visits to the Palm Springs area (at a Collegiate softball tournament). : ) She was such a fun, nice, caring and supportive person and I will definitely miss her. My condolences to her family and friends. Bonnie McCarty

I have so many great memories of Claud. I played with her and against her in softball. Many times after a game we usually ended up at Turn of the Century patio or just the tailgate, where we had to have "just the one more". We´ve lost a good one. You left this earth too soon my friend. Condolences to the family and all her friends who considered her a sister.

My lifelong friend and teammate....I will miss you terribly. You took such a nonchalant trip through life...if you hit a hurdle....if you hit them all, even better. The best first baseman in the world....some how always came up with the ball and made the rest of us look good. Always a smile. See you on the other side....make sure the team is ready to go when I get there. Love you forever....

Patient, kind, caring, athletic, wise, tenacious, passionate, humorous, curious, attentive are just a few attributes we, who know and love Claudia, will miss.
Her enthusiasm for life was reflected in the twinkle of her eyes, the smile which graced her face, and in the heartfelt love of her hugs.
From scouting, at track meets, on baseball fields, across golf courses, along hiking trails, throughout her travels, those blessed to meet her also found a genuine friend who left us with many stories and treasured memories.
Thomas Campbell wrote, "To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die." Sadly, her being is gone yet each of us will forever carry her essence in some special way. I could never thank her enough for the gift of her friendship for over 5 decades.
