David Thelen Obituary

Dave passed away Sept. 15, 2017, at his home in Fromberg. We not only lost our father and Papa but also our HERO.

Dave was born in Shelby, Nebraka, to Elaine and Richard Thelen. After graduating from high school, Dave joined the Navy and was a Radioman on a PT boat. Dave received a Bronze Star for his heroic actions on May 26, 1968. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Dave re-enlisted in the Army and was a door gunner on a Hewy helicopter. He survived four helicopter crashes, being the only survivor in two of the crashes. Dave received a purple heart, and was honorably discharged from the Army.

After returning home Dave started a career in surveying, where he met Christine Cannon whom he married in Cannondale, Colorado, on Oct. 27, 1984. From this union Jodi (Thelen) Wolf and Bobbi (Thelen) Knight were born. Dave and Chris later divorced.

Dave also had a long career with RJ Reynolds retiring in 2006 after 21 years. Dave was very active in the community, serving on the Fire Department, and School Board as the Chairman. Dave was always ready to lend a helping hand, to anyone in need.

Dave is survived by his daughters and their families, Jodi & Brad Wolf and grandson Benjamin, and Bobbi Knight and granddaughters Trinity and Taylin, three brothers, four sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Bill.
