SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Diane Lee Howe passed away on July 16, 2007 at the age of 68. Suffering from a rare form of cancer, carcinoid syndrome that metastasized in her liver, she died peacefully at home with her family.
Diane was born on Oct. 13, 1938, in Denver, and attended the University of Colorado Medical School, where she became an X-Ray technician. She was Miss Colorado in the Miss Universe contest in 1958 and finished in the top 10, winning the Best Speech Award. She ran a very successful real estate business where she was a top producer for 17 years. She was the first woman president for the Scottsdale Ranch homeowner association and was on the Governmental committee for many years. She married Marty in 1960 and on June 11, 2007, celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary with friends at beautiful Kiawah Island in South Carolina. She was a best friend, wonderful wife and mother and the pillar of our family. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Marty; daughters, Vanessa, Melissa and Deidre; grandchildren, Ashley, Austin, Mac, Hunter and Mason, and a new baby on the way that's due Sept. 12.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, July 19, at 10 a.m., at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale. Diane will be laid to rest at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 9300 E. Shea Blvd., with a reception following at Scottsdale Plaza Resort, 7200 N. Scottsdale Road.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her honor may be sent to Hospice Memorial Fund, c/o Manor Care Foundation, 333 N. Summit St., PO Box 10086, Toledo, OH 43699-0086 (419-254-7720). Hospice did a wonderful job helping Diane and her family through this struggle.
