Doris Coon-Corwin Obituary
Doris Coon-Corwin of Mesa, Arizona passed away on November 24, 2023, at her home at the age of 100.
Doris was born on October 27, 1923 in Alameda, California to her parents, Jim and Margaret Goodwin. The family later moved to Billings, Montana.
In 1942, Doris married Lionel David Coon, Jr in Columbus, Montana, and they celebrated 26 years of marriage before his death in 1968. The two raised three children together - David, Jim, and Patty. Doris was a dedicated mother to their children and Dave was an officer in the Air Force. Doris worked for many years for the Shrine Temple in Billings, Montana where she planned events for the Temple and arranged transportation for families to the Shriner's Children's Hospital. She went on to serve in administration for Whirlpool until her retirement. In retirement, she loved to travel. She took several trips with friends and family to places like Australia, Aruba, and Hawaii.
After Dave's death, Doris married Mark Corwin in 1990 and became close with Mark's children, Roger Corwin, and Karin Lee Twedt. Doris and Mark had a full and happy life together in Mesa, Arizona until Mark's passing in 2003. During their life together, they were surrounded by friends and community. They loved spending time cooking and enjoying time with friends. Every Christmas they enjoyed making Christmas cookies. Doris was an avid dog lover and was especially fond of her best friend, her delightful cocker spaniel, Missy. They loved taking rides around their community in the golf cart together. Later, Doris adopted a sweet chihuahua from a senior dog rescue and was able to give him a happy home in his final years.
Doris was an active member and leader in numerous Masonic organizations. She was the Worthy Matron of Edna Hodges OES in Billings. She was the Grand Guardian of Job's Daughters. While in Mesa, she served as Queen of the Daughters of the Nile from 2006 to 2007. She also served as Worthy Matron of her Mesa Eastern Star. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Doris is survived by her children, David Coon (Marcia Coon), Jim Coon and Patty Martin (Ron Martin), her grandchildren, Kathy Coon, Robin Coon, and Kelsey Martin, great grandchildren, Robert Barnes and Danielle Martin, and great great grandchildren, Calvin and Lily. She is also survived by her stepfamily, Roger Corwin, Karin Lee Twedt and her children Joanna and Ken. She was so proud to be a grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She was loved by many other extended family members and friends.
The entire family came together in 2023 to celebrate Doris' 100th birthday together. It was wonderful to spend time together and celebrate 100 amazing years.
Of all the places that Doris called home, Billings, Montana was the closest to her heart. A celebration of life will be held on May 20, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Sunset Cemetary, 1721 Central Avenue, Billings, Montana.
