Duane was born on Sept. 26, 1951, in Glendive, the son of Gydion and Lydia (Gaub) Ulrich. He attended schools in Glendive and graduated from Dawson County High School with the class of 1970. Duane attended Billings Automotive School in Billings, graduating in 1971. He served in the National Guard for six years. After he graduated from Vo-tech school, Duane went to work for Reuben Vogele at V & W Pontiac and Buick in Glendive. In 1973, he met Nancy Buller and on Dec. 7, 1973, they were married and they shared their life together for the past 34 years. Duane worked for K & M Oil Field Service for a short time and worked for Tim's Conoco of Glendive until it closed in 1978 and for Brengle's Pontiac and Buick in Glendive until it closed in 1990. He then became employed by Williston Basin Interstate Pipeline Company in November of 1990 at the Little Beaver Compressor Station near Baker, Montana where he worked for six years before transferring to his present location at the Vida Compressor Plant near Vida.
Duane was very much a family man. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and his family was his whole life. He always enjoyed his time together with his children and grandson and also with his sisters and his in-laws. His hobbies included fixing up old vehicles, working in the yard, collecting Aladdin and other old oil lamps and model cars, and following the school sporting events. He was especially good at taking something old or broken and fixing it up. It gave him great pleasure to get it to work again. Duane will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
