Eva Darlene Herzog
Darlene was born to Martin Lenard Hawkins and Emma Aline Burke, on January 19, 1937, in Charlo, MT. Darlene was the middle child of seven. The family moved to Missoula, MT and then settled in Billings. She attended school at North Park Elementary, Lincoln Jr. High and Billings Senior.
Darlene worked at Ideal Bakery when she was 15 years old. That is when she met the love of her life, Ronald Dell Herzog. She thought he was the cutest guy she'd ever met. But she told him to come back when she grew up and she would marry him.
That is just what he did when he was home on leave. They met up again on April 8, 1955. By April 11, they were engaged and on January 14, 1956, they were married. Ron passed away in September 1992. Darlene has waited to join him for 32 years.
Ron and Darlene had five children: Randy, Rhonda, Shawn, Karen, and Brian.
Darlene was a wife and homemaker. She was a great cook and always had a delicious meal on the table when our dad came home from work. She loved her family and made sure we were well taken care of.
After the kids were all grown and gone, she worked as a Cashier at Kwik Way then went to work as the Assistant Manager at Northwest Fabric. Then at Herbergers and Big Lots.
After Ron passed away, she was responsible for the upkeep and managing of their rental property and their home which she did until her passing.
Darlene loved to garden and had a beautiful yard. She was quite a seamstress in her earlier years. She had a real talent with flower arrangements. Her talent was on display at several of her grandchildren's weddings.
Darlene was proceeded in death by, her husband, Ronald Herzog, her mother and father, Mort and Emma Hawkins, son, Randy Herzog, grandson, Nathen Jones, brothers: Dell Hawkins, Lyman "Bud" Hawkins and sisters: Elaine Nelson, Marie Reickert, and Vivion Dvorak.
Darlene is survived by: Rhonda Martin (Donald), Charlene Jones (nickname Shawn), Karen Boyles (Chris), Brian Herzog (Michelle); brother, Len Hawkins; 24 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Darlene worked in the Billings LDS Temple for 12 years. That is where she found her greatest peace and comfort. She drew great strength to help her endure to the end.
Darlene will be greatly missed.
