Flora Cameron Obituary

8/18/1918 - 3/5/2004

Flora Alice Cameron, of Billings, formerly of Gardiner.
Daughter of Hannah Taylor and Vernon Johnson, she was born in Great Falls. The family ranched on Bitter Creek, Pryor Creek, and lived in Billings, with many summers spent in the Jardine area. She graduated from Billings Senior High School and Billings Polytechnic Institute.
In February 1942, she married Donald "Neil" Cameron and after the war, they settled in Gardiner to raise their children. Flora was a professional businesswoman, retiring from Yellowstone Park Service Stations when she was 80.
Flora liked to cook, read, travel and tend to her flower gardens. She was called "the Sweet Pea Lady." She lived by the principles she taught her children: to think of others first, never to feel sorry for yourself and that we each have a responsibility to help those who need help. She was generous with her money, her time, her smile and her many kindnesses. She loved her family unreservedly, and children were her special joy.
Her parents, sister Verna, her brother Bill and her husband Neil preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Diane Cameron (J.D. Frelinger); her son, Don (Lisa); grandchildren, David (Heather), Nicole (Dan), Leland and Denise; step-grandchildren, B.J., Yolanda, Tarquin, Graeson and Bella; brothers, Earl (Carol), Clarence, Warren (Sue), Ralph and Lloyd; sister Charlotte; sister-in-law, Mary Patterson; brother-in-law Jim Johnston; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Lincoln Lane Assisted Living and Billings Health and Rehab for her care after moving to Billings.
Flora spent her final days at St. John's, where she was nurtured as she had nurtured others. We, her family, are at a loss for words to express our gratitude for the type of care she was given at St. John's.
We would also like to thank Mother's friends and neighbors in Gardiner who helped her live where she wanted to for as long as she could.
Should you wish, memorials can be sent to: Gardiner Ambulance Service, Gardiner, MT 59030, or St. Labre Indian School, Tongue River Road, Ashland, MT 59004.
Flora died as she had lived: quietly, with grace and dignity.
Private family services are planned.

Sorry to hear of Flora's death. I last saw her several years ago when I went to the Gardiner reunion. I'm saddened to hear of another Gardiner "old-timer" being gone. My sympathies to you all.
