George Lawrence Obituary

Tom Lawrence passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025 at his home in Billings, MT after fighting cancer for over a year. He was surrounded by family as he quietly left us.

George T. Lawrence, Jr., always known as Tom, was born on August 7, 1946 to Kathleen (Hayes) Lawrence and George T. Lawrence in Butte, MT. He grew up in Butte, graduated from Butte High, class of '64, attended Montana Tech and then enlisted in the USAF in 1965. He was deployed to Thailand as a medic and was honorably discharged in 1969. He married Vicki Stahley in March of 1968 in Great Falls and together they had a daughter Bonni and son Brian. They moved to Billings where Tom first worked at the airport. He then worked as a computer technician at the Billings Gazette, retiring after 22 years.

Tom and Vicki were later divorced. In 1988 he met and married his soul mate, Judy Schubert. Tom loved the game of golf and through this hobby, Tom and Judy made life long friends. They loved traveling, fell in love with Italy and Spain and again made many more friends. Whether we were in the car or Tom was working in the garage, the radio was on. He loved music and his favorite group was the Eagles. You didn't interrupt him if they were playing "Hotel California"! More than anything Tom loved his family and nothing could put a smile on his face faster than when the grand and great-grandkids came over.

Tom is survived by his wife, Judy, his son Brian (Pam), step-son Chad and step-daughter Michelle (Todd), sister Nancy Poole (Don) of Belgrade, MT, granddaughters Maeli, Kati, Karissa, Courtney and Shevi and great-grandchildren, Lainey, Everly and Thomas, plus step grandchildren Maggie, Joel, Ava and Abi. He is also survived by nine nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother David, and daughter Bonni.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church. Interment of ashes immediately following at the Columbarium. Reception to follow at Lake Hills Golf Club from 4-6.

In lieu of flowers and condolences, donations may be made to Atonement Lutheran Church or Bark Animal Shelter or Yellowstone Animal Shelter.
