MISSOULA - George A. Weldon, 95, of Missoula, died on Friday, Aug. 26, 2011.
Born December 21, 1915, to Elizabeth and Orville Weldon, he lived a full and robust life from his earliest days on the family ranch, south of Billings. He attended Blue Creek School and Billings High School and was proud of his service to his country in WWII, in the European Theater, and later when recalled for the Korean War.
George lived a life which exemplified what it means to be a good friend, neighbor, business leader, patriot, husband and father. He was a fixture of the Missoula business community as the owner of Sheehan Majestic, a company he began in 1952 and operated until his retirement in 1980. Through his business and service to the community, he became a hero to many. More than one person can attribute their personal and professional success to the encouragement and support he provided.
George enjoyed hunting, fishing and most of all, golf. Many happy summers were spent at his Flathead Lake cabin and winters at his home in Yuma, Ariz. He was a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church, Masonic Harmony Lodge 49 - Scottish Rite - Bagdad Shrine, and is remembered fondly by generations of Missoula kids who, each year, watched him ride with the Bitty Bug Shrine. He was active in the Missoula Chamber of Commerce throughout his career, a member of the University of Montana Century Club, including serving as its president and then as a member of the Grizzly Athletic Association for nearly 60 years.
George was blessed with the love and companionship of two remarkable women. He was married to Harriet Weldon (Martin) from Billings for 53 years until her death in 1995. They shared a true partnership that built a lasting business and leaves an enduring legacy through their children. In 1996, he married Doris Thomas of Missoula, who survives him. Together they shared many happy years filled with travel and good times with family and friends.
Additional survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Fred and Sharon Weldon of Missoula; daughter Kathi Miller of Livingston; five grandsons (spouses): Tom Weldon (Janet) of Spokane, Wash.; Bill Fine (Gloria) of Oakland, Calif.; Greg Fine of Chicago; Jason (Michelle) Miller of Stevensville; Charlie Miller of Missoula and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend special thanks to George's medical and support team including: Dr. Selbach and nurse Jan both of the VA, Dr. Heaton, Dr. Nichols, Denise and Carolyn both from Hospice of Missoula and the staff and residents at The Village in Missoula.
Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with a 3 p.m. burial service to follow at Sunset Memorial Garden in Missoula. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in George's name to the University of Montana Foundation in benefit of Grizzly Athletics or the First Presbyterian Church.
