Gladys Fay Oberg
August 8, 1940 - October 9, 2025
Gladys Fay Oberg, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 9, 2025, at her home.
Gladys was born August 8, 1940, in Malta, Mont., to Otis Norman Field and Virgie Irene Jones Field. She was the fourth of six children in a family that enjoyed a simple, rural lifestyle. Gladys attended local Montana schools. Later in life she also took classes at Texas A&M and Kansas State.
On October 27, 1956, Gladys married Floyd Gene Oberg in Columbus, Mont. Gladys and Floyd began their family in Billings, and Laurel, Mont. They moved their young family of four children to Idaho Falls in 1968. Gladys worked as a meat inspector for the USDA and then Federal FSIS.
Gladys was active in spreading her love for art and was a member of the Idaho Falls Art Guild for many years. Her life-long love of horses fit in perfectly with her artistic talents. She created many paintings of horses and scenes of rural life in Montana, as well as beautiful portraits. Other hobbies included sewing, knitting, yard work, genealogy, and raising multiple dachshunds!
Gladys' parents modeled their strong Christian faith, and she passed that on to her next generations. She enjoyed being active in her faith and hosted Bible study groups in her home for many years. Gladys said, "Thanks to God, this was an overly great life, even with all of life's ups and downs."
She cherished her family and friends and intentionally worked to build relationships with them. She especially loved sharing her life with her grandchildren. Gladys helped to finance all of their post-high school educations.
Gladys had a strong, can-do, attitude. She was not intimidated by anything. She figured out how to do electrical work, plumbing, sheetrock, concrete, fencing, and whatever else needed done.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (DeWayne) Rolph of Covington, Wash.; son, Floyd (Denise) Oberg, Jr. of Boise, Idaho; son, Paris (Tammy) Oberg of Idaho Falls, Idaho; brothers, David Field, and Larry (Carla) Field; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Otis Norman Field; her mother, Virgie Irene Field; her brothers, Bob and Norman; her husband, Floyd Gene Oberg, Sr; her daughter, Peggy Bell Lund; and her sister, Inez, with whom she shared an especially close relationship.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Private family inurnment will be held at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
