MUSSELSHELL - Harold "Ike" Schulz, 75, of Musselshell, passed away Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 17, 1927, in LeVoy, Wyo., the youngest son of Charles William and Evelyn Elizabeth (Frickel) Schulz. He grew up on a ranch 10 miles east of Kaycee, Wyo., with his parents, Tom and Evelyn (Schulz) Million; sister, Helen; and brother, Charles "Buss." He attended the Sutton School at Kaycee and graduated from high school at Buffalo, Wyo.
In 1946, the family bought a ranch in Musselshell. For several years, he helped on the ranch, as well as worked as a heavy equipment operator out of Roundup. In 1961, he took over the family ranch, which continued to be his home until his passing. He was a licensed outfitter from 1950 to 1980. From 1951 to 1968, he, along with his brother, Buss Schulz, and nephew, Dale Colvin, operated the Schulz Brothers Outfitters hunting camp out of Shaffer Meadows and Bob Marshall wilderness areas.
Ike enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting rocks and antiques, fly tying, silver-smithing, and traveling. Music and dancing were very much a part of his life, as was his dog.
Ike was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Helen Slane of Thermopolis, Wyo. He is survived by his brother, Charles "Buss" Schulz of Two Dot; one son, Harold Schulz, Jr. from out of state; two daughters, Mary Cleveland (Barry) of Shepherd and Tammy Bellinger (Rick) of Ballantine; three grandsons; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews; dancing partner, Ann Ellender of Billings; and many close friends.
Ike's wishes were to have "a wake" at his ranch. This celebration of his life will be held Dec. 13, 14, 15 at the Schulz ranch south of Musselshell. Honoring his request, his ashes will be spread over the ranch by plane when there is "a little blanket of snow."
