Herb Stephenson, 83, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born Sept. 26, 1929, in Missouri, the youngest of four children born to Robert Stephenson and Amelia Gebhardt Stephenson. He moved to Montana with his family at the age of six and graduated from Fromberg High School in 1947.
He married his high school sweetheart, Ella Mae Bonawitz, in 1950. They spent their lives raising a family, crops, cattle and the occasional raccoon.
Herb enjoyed life to the fullest. He found joy in raising crops and feeding cattle and delighted in little things like riding his Honda 90 over a single plank to get from one side of the ditch to the other. After working long hot summer days, he still found time to take the family water skiing at the local reservoir.
He is survived by his sister Betty Butler; children Denny (Marilyn) Stephenson, Vicky Harrison, Bill (Cindy) Stephenson and Brad (Cheri) Stephenson; grandchildren Rick (Katie), Chris (Hilary), Riley (Beth), Tyler (Kordelle), Ashley, Jessi and Harlie Stephenson, Becky (Josh) Nipper, Serena (Ben) Adams, Lindsey Harrison, Shawna (Rainier) Batt, Cassi (Cory) Bowman, Brandie (Jeff) Staples; and great-grandchildren Sam, Nathan, Lilly, Wyatt, Claire, T.J., Brooks, Ridge, Rainee and Ashtyn.
His parents, his wife of 56 years, and brothers Leroy and Jim preceded him in death.
The family wishes to thank Beartooth Hospice and caregivers Bonnie and Penny who lovingly cared for Dad during his final days.
Memorial services will be held at the Joliet Wesleyan Church, Second and Carbon, Joliet, Mont., at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 13. Those wishing may donate to Beartooth Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements are by Cremation & Funeral Gallery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cfgbillings.com through "Our Families."
