Jake Lovell Obituary

After a lifetime of finding happiness despite hardship and spreading joy in the midst of pain, Jake "Mr. Big" Decker Lovell is on his best adventure ever. He was surrounded by family when he died peacefully at home on September 21, 2025 and went to be with Jesus.

Jake entered this world on June 24, 1993 in Spokane, Washington. Severe medical complications and cerebral palsy were daunting opponents, but Jake was a born fighter. Thanks to excellent medical care, the "Comeback Kid" not only survived but thrived, beginning a remarkable pattern of health battles and comebacks that would repeat itself throughout his life.

Though non-verbal, Jake's first language was love, which he spoke to all who met and knew him. His love was a universal language communicated through his eyes, his smile, his laugh, his hugs and the way he held your hand. Jake obeyed Jesus' command that we love one another, and his life was perhaps marked most by his ability to make friends and to make them feel special. He especially loved spending time with his friends at Eagle Mount Billings, Landon's Legacy and Casey's Dream in Billings, and at Next Step Ministries in Woodstock, GA.

Jake's younger brother, Charlie, was his best friend and biggest supporter. Born 11 months apart, the two boys were inseparable during their school years. When Charlie began to drive, Jake howled with laughter seeing him behind the steering wheel, but he was always ready to roll the dice and hit the road together. After Charlie moved away for college and work, Jake couldn't wait to reunite with him for holidays and vacations. Charlie counts Jake as one of his greatest teachers, a spiritual guide who showed him what it means to depend fully on God.

Despite his challenges, Jake lived a fun life filled with great adventures. Snow skiing, water skiing, bike riding, playing baseball, rock wall climbing, assisting football teams, riding shotgun in a NASCAR race car traveling at 165 miles per hour-he was up for all of it and so much more.

It was no secret that Jake was a ladies' man. He loved beautiful women, country music and dancing. His favorite dances were Tim Tebow's annual Night to Shine and similar "ballroom" affairs, when he could put on his signature bowtie and tuxedo, ride in a limousine and party late into the night with his friends.

Jake attended Independent School and Castle Rock Middle School in Billings, and graduated from Allatoona High School in Acworth, GA. We are so grateful for the wonderful friends who came alongside Jake and our family during the ten years we lived in Georgia.

Jake's life spoke volumes about the love and faithfulness of Jesus. The Lord blessed him continuously, walking him through every challenge and every joyful moment. When Jake was in high school, he asked to be baptized and publicly confirmed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior. Jake routinely used his assistive communication device to pray with his parents for family and friends.

Jake's life was enriched by so many: the doctors, nurses, caregivers, teachers and therapists who offered faithful care; the friends who treated him as family, visiting hospitals, sharing adventures and showing up in moments of crisis; and his extended family, who made him laugh and stood beside him throughout the years. We are so thankful for all who helped Jake live a full, meaningful life. A special thank you to the awesome team at Riverstone Hospice whose great care helped us enjoy an extra year with him at home.

Jake's memory is carried forward by his parents, Lance and Julie of Billings, his brother Charlie of Phoenix, extended family and countless friends.

A Celebration of Life service is set for 10:30 a.m., Oct. 16 at New Life Church, 3950 Temple Place, Billings. Feel free to wear bow ties, football jerseys, baseball shirts or anything else that reminds you of Jake.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to support Jake's friends at Landon's Legacy Foundation (https://landonslegacy.com) and Eagle Mount Billings (https://eaglemountbillings.org) would be greatly appreciated.

Lovell family, our very deepest condolences on your loss. Our daughter, Chere, adored Jake when they were at Independent School and Castle Rock together. We remember seeing them together and both of them smiling and enjoying one another's company. It made a lasting memory. We have never forgotten him and the joy he always exuded in spite of his challenges. May God bless you and comfort you all during this time and in the years ahead. Jake was such an amazing inspiration and impact in my life. He was the biggest adrenaline addict I have ever known. He never let anything slow him down, snow skiing, riding in a prop plane, water skiing, he lived his best life in the fast lane. He had the biggest heart and the brightest smile I have ever seen. I know he is dancing on the streets of Gold and sitting on the right hand side of our Savior. RIP until we meet again Jakester.

Oh Jake I remember meeting you in an airport not long after my son with similar needs passed away, I knew it was a God Wink moment the minute I saw you and your Mom. My heart needed that moment you reminded me so very much of my son and the Love I saw in you and your family was just what my Momma grieving heart needed. I introduced myself to you and your mom and you have had a part in my healing journey. I pray for your family and that Jesus will set up a similar experience for your mom as she journeys down the path of grief till we see again in Heaven. I hope my son Donald welcomed you home and you quickly become friends and I can´t wait to see you both again soon. I will be praying for your family and sending all my love in our Savior Christ Jesus.

Jake was very young when I met him. His light shown bright from the git go- he was so blessed to have such loving , dedicated and strong advocates as parents who couldn't have given him a better life - which he lived to his fullest. Lucky us to have known him and celebrate his presence.
