John Alan Waddell

NEW ORLEANS - John Alan Waddell died Feb. 13, 2007, in New Orleans, where he was attending a Maritime School working on a heavier tonnage license.
John was born on Aug. 6, 1949, to Jack and Audrey Waddell in Bozeman, Mont. He was a graduate of the Lakeside Boys School in Seattle in 1967. He attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., and received a bachelor of arts in architecture from the University of Washington in Seattle. He was a member of the Tau Sigma Delta Academic Honor Society in Architecture upon graduation in 1973. He then went on to naval architecture and studied for a captaincy of various vessel sizes. He was a Captain of fishing boats on the Bering Sea in the Aleutian Islands, Sea of Japan, Seas of Korea and Vladivostok, Russia. In his later years, he was a Captain of oil exploration supply ships in Brazil and the Gulf of Mexico. John held different licenses of different tonnages throughout his career. He was a medic during the Vietnam War. He held a current private pilot's license and also held his instrument, multi-engine, and commercial ratings.
His father, Jack Waddell preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother, Audrey of Silesia, Mont.; his sister, Maxine Paxton of Seattle; and daughters Taylor Blue, attending Montana State University in Bozeman and Ariel Rose, attending the University of Washington in Seattle.
Cremation has taken place. A remembrance of John will be held on Sunday, Feb. 25, from noon to 5 p.m. at the home of Audrey Waddell: 19 Chilcott Road, Silesia; 406-962-3768. In memory of John, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
