Joseph Kent Boughn

Dr. Joseph Kent Boughn passed away peacefully in Billings, on Sept. 10, 2017.

J. Kent Boughn was born in Walthill, Nebraska, on June 20, 1920. He grew up in Walthill with his parents (Rosalie and Wendell Boughn), sister (Rosemary), and brother (Thomas). Kent completed both his undergraduate degree and medical school at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He married Joyce Elaine Lundberg in 1946. Kent began his medical practice in Mapleton, Iowa. During that time, he and Joyce had three daughters, Pamela, Sandra, and Deborah.

Kent and Joyce and their three girls moved to St. Louis, Missouri in order for Kent to pursue a medical specialty in Radiology. When this was complete, the family moved to Helena, Montana in 1958. A son, Jay, was born to Kent and Joyce in 1960. Kent was an active community member in Helena for over 20 years. After Kent retired, he and Joyce moved to Sun Lakes, Arizona, and enjoyed an active life of golf and fun until they returned to Montana to be close to family again.

Kent played golf most of his adult life. His last game with his golf buddies was in September of 2016 when he was 96 years old! He loved to ski with his family and did so for many years. He so much appreciated the beautiful Montana outdoors. Kent's Native American heritage was of immense pride to him. He studied this heritage and shared many stories about it with all of his family members. His source of greatest pride, though, was his loving family.

Kent is survived by his children: Pamela Alvord (Mike, deceased 2015) of Bozeman; Sandra Ameel (Tim) of Salt Lake City; Deborah Tucker (Steve) of Billings; and Jay Boughn (Jennifer) of Helena. Kent's eight grandchildren are: Nathan (Kate) Alvord; Josh Alvord; Britta Ameel; Kristen Ameel; Tyler Tucker (Leigh); Seth Tucker; Cami Boughn (Dave Back); and Levi Boughn (Sally). Kent also has four great-grandchildren: Max and Delaney (Nate and Kate); Remy (Tyler and Leigh); and Lillian (Cami and Dave). Kent's beloved wife, Joyce, preceded him in death in 2009. Kent's sense of humor, integrity, wit, intelligence, and love of a good argument will be missed by so many, most especially his family.

Kent's family so much appreciates the good care he received from The Vista and Compassus Hospice during the last several months of his life.

There will be a memorial service for Kent on the main lawn of Mission Ridge, 3840 Rimrock Road, Billings, on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m.
