Lawrence Foster Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" Foster

March 8, 1953 - June 13, 2025

BILLINGS – Lawrence "Larry" Foster, 72, of Billings, Mont., passed away on June 13, 2025. He was born on March 8, 1953, in Chicago, Ill., to William "Bill" and Sallie Foster.

Larry worked for many years in the refinery industry and also spent time as a road construction flagger in Montana and Wyoming.

He loved spending time with his family and friends, whether it was fishing with his dad and sons or having backyard barbecues at his parents' house. Family was everything to him! He was an avid sports fan; he enjoyed watching basketball and football. He always made sure he watched his Broncos!

He is survived by his wife, Verna Foster; former wife, Caroline Templeton; his sister, Alberia Foster; brother, Bobby Beaver; children, Larry Foster III, Tanya Long, Laquisha Jones, Damon Leroy, Nolan Moore, Brandon Moore, Bernard Thacker, and Chrissy Koch; nephews, Frankie Hammontree, Bobby Beaver Jr., and Bubba; nieces, Tiffany and Maggie Ceynar; 13+ grandchildren; and 7+ great-grandchildren; and numerous friends and extended family.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, William and Sallie Foster; late wife, Jimmy; son, Alex; daughter, Cleo; and granddaughter, Precious.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 11 a.m. Viewing will be held at 10 a.m., at Smith Downtown Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A reception potluck will take place afterward at The America Family restaurant, and all are welcome to attend and share memories of Larry.

Larry's warmth, humor, and deep love for his family will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

We love you!

Larry was a gifted athlete, basketball may have been his best sport, but he could play just about anything and play it well. I always remembered him as a lefty, but you couldn´t really tell because he was so naturally ambidextrous.

One night stands out in particular to me: the EMC/Rocky "Box Off." It was a unique event where about 20 athletes from the two schools stepped into the ring against each other for three rounds. The night built up to the main event-Larry Foster versus Shane Patterson.

Now, Shane wasn´t just anybody. He was one of the top amateur boxers Billings had ever seen. But Larry stepped into that ring with confidence and heart, and he held his own every second of that fight. He brought credibility to the event and gave the crowd something to remember.

I was there that night. It was a great show, and Larry, as always, was at the center of it.
