Mabel Childers

Mabel C. Childers (Nelson), 96, of Billings, died Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the Billings Health and Rehabilitation Center with family beside her. She was born March 20, 1918, on a farm east of Homestead, Mont. Mabel was a daughter of Ole and Inga Nelson.

She was baptized and confirmed at the Bethel Church and attended grade school and graduated from high school in Froid, Mont. Mabel served as "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII in Seattle for Boeing Airlines. She returned to Froid and met Marion Childers. They later married in Billings on May 15, 1951.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion; her mother, Inga; father, Ole; brothers, Eddie, Oscar, Ove, Ottis and Carl; sisters, Bertha and Nettie; and granddaughter, Terrie. Survivors include her daughter, Roberta; many nieces and nephews; grandson, Deywane; her beloved six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and countless friends.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church, 522 N. 29th St. Cremation will follow. At a later date there will be a committal service for Mabel and Marion at Big Lake Cemetery at Homestead. Family will be notified of the date and time.
