WORDEN - Paul Edwin Farnes, of Worden, passed from this earth on Oct. 5, 2017, at the age of 95 in the presence of family. Paul was born on June 26, 1922, in Broadview, to Marcia D. Bumgarner and Walter J. Farnes.
Paul spent most of his childhood growing up on a farm near Broadview, Montana. Paul had five siblings: Reo Freeman Farnes, Walter Fillmore (Phil) Farnes, Hilma B Lutgen, Eula Violet Lutgen and Robert Neil Farnes all who have proceeded Paul in death.
Paul married Ruth Ann Chesterman in Beaver City, Nebraska on April 30, 1948. They spent most of their 69 years of married life on the Huntley Project. Paul was well known for his skilled carpentry, hard work and integrity, building and remodeling more homes, barns and commercial buildings than can be counted. Paul and Ruth Ann were active supporters of the community and the Huntley Project Schools.
Paul is survived by Ruth Ann, and his three children: Larry Lee Farnes (Martha) of Eagle, Idaho; Linda Ann Farnes (Chuck) of Worden, Montana and Peggy Lynn Banka (Scott) of Whitefish, Montana. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Jonathan Susott, Brian Susott, Paula Farnes Spratt, Sarah Farnes Soyka, Jenifer Banka Lyman, Jeff Banka, twelve great grandchildren, also several nieces and nephews.
Paul enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, bowling and playing cards with his friends and family. In his later years he enjoyed feeding the birds and practically had the doves eating out of his hand. Paul had a fun sense of humor. His "discipline" of his grandchildren was to tell them to "go outside and blow the stink off." His comment about a lack of common sense was "you buy them books and you buy them books, but no one ever reads them."
We miss him!
The family would like to thank all of those who cared for Paul. To honor him, memorial gifts can be made to Sunnyside Library in Worden or the Worden Fire Department.
A memorial service will be held on Nov. 4, at 11 a.m., at the Bethlehem Congregational Church in Worden, Montana. That service will be followed by a light luncheon then internment at Pleasantview Cemetery in Ballantine.
