Phyllis Edna Schultz (Duckwitz) passed from this world into heaven on March 17, 2018, the birthday of her beloved husband, Barney, who along with Jesus, welcomed her with open arms.
Phyllis was born 82 years ago in a log cabin in southwestern North Dakota as the second of Arnold and Ethel (Hoerauf) Duckwitz's twelve children. She grew up on their family farm near Hebron, North Dakota. After high school, she earned a teaching certificate at Dickinson State Teacher's College. She formally taught one year in a one-room school house, but never stopped teaching whether it was at Sunday School, 4-H, Cub Scouts, or any other teachable moment. Through her, many of us have learned to sew, knit, cook, and care for others.
Phyllis and Bernard Schultz were married during a 3-day military leave on June 1, 1956. Dad spent their first year in Germany, but they stayed close by reading the same devotional and writing letters. Words were important to mom. You probably received a letter or card out of love from her sometime. She wrote in journals daily. She enjoyed wise quotations, but above all, she treasured the words of the Bible in her heart and knew Jesus as the Living Word. Many of us can close our eyes and hear mom reading something aloud to us. Her daily phone texts were endearing.
Phyllis and Barney raised their family of five children in Riverdale, North Dakota until 1974 when they moved to Fort Peck, Montana. After 2 years they moved into Glasgow where she lived the remainder of her life.
Phyllis is survived by her five children: Terry (Kim) Jung, Glasgow; Dale (Dorothy) Schultz, Butte; Daryl (Deb) Schultz, Havre; Patrick (Annette) Schultz, Fargo, ND; and Connie Sharp, Glasgow; eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren; four brothers and five sisters: Wallace (Darlene) Duckwitz; Marilyn (Don) Schlafman; Margaret (Walt) Mandeville; Fred (Donna Mae) Duckwitz; Marjorie (Milton) Kinghorn; Will (Rita) Duckwitz; Linda Duckwitz, Donnalee (Wayne) Quarberg; and Noel (Cathy) Duckwitz. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters: Sylvia (Dan) Hepner and Lois (Jim) Martz. Her body will be laid to rest in Highland Cemetery in Glasgow.
