Robert Guelff Obituary
GLENDIVE - Robert L. "Bob" Guelff, age 86, of Glendive, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, in the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, in the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Mass of Christian Burial with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive, with Father Denis Fournier officiating. Rite of Committal will be in the Dawson County Cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.
Bob was born on Feb. 20, 1920, in Glendive, the son of Mike and Florence (Russ) Guelff. He was raised and educated in Glendive, graduating from Dawson County High School. He entered the United States Army in June of 1942, serving in the European Theater of World War II. Bob was united in marriage to Francine Chupp on Aug. 23, 1943, in Wibaux. Following his honorable discharge in December of 1945, he returned to Glendive, where he worked with his father. Bob worked on dam construction projects throughout North Dakota until returning to Glendive, where he and his father began Guelff and Son Lumber Company. During this time, Bob also owned a trucking company, hauling cattle and oil field supplies. Bob and his wife owned a ranch and farm operation eight miles west of Glendive, where he raised polled Hereford cattle that he was very proud of.
When Bob retired, he enjoyed being a part of the "McDonald's Coffee Club." He also enjoyed going to the ranch to check his cattle and was often accompanied by his trusty Boston bull terrier. He enjoyed rodeos and had a special love for his grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Reid.
Survivors include his wife, Francine Guelff of Glendive; his daughters, Connie Ripley and her husband Ty, Bev Hellman and her husband Bob, all of Glendive, Marilyn Adams and her husband Vince of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Dawn Nagle and her husband Butch of Circle; his sister, Marguerite (Eiker) Reed of Glendive; his brother, Keith Guelff and his wife Hazel of Glendive; 10 grandchildren, Stacey (Roger) Derks, Penny (Chad) Maher, Blayne (Shanon) Hellman, Jamie Blankenship, Faye Adams, Kristie (Mike) Jorgenson, Lindsey Nagle, Clay Nagle, Troy Nagle and Shelbey Nagle; nine great-grandchildren, Chloe Derks, Carter Derks, Paityn Maher, Demyrie Maher, Kade Hellman, Kaylyn Hellman, Hayes Blankenship, Boone Blankenship and Sierra Nagle.
