Ruth Torrence Obituary

Ruth Stanton Torrence, 83, of Billings, formerly Sidney, MT, passed away peacefully surrounded by love.

She was born in Billings in 1941 to Forrest and Isabel Stanton and graduated from Billings High School. She also graduated from EMC, married Dave Torrence, and taught for several years before settling in Sidney. As a person with a disability, she was an advocate, as well as an activist for special education, as two of her children, Tanya and Ben, were born with serious health issues.

After Dave retired, they moved back to Billings, and spent much of their time with family, including their beloved grandson Maxwell. In 2023, she completed an interview for the Western Heritage Center and is part of a current exhibit.

She is preceeded in death by her husband David and daughter Tanya, and is survived by her daughter Heather, son Ben, and grandson, along with many family and friends. Services will be Friday, Aug 22 at 2 p.m. at St Luke's Episcopal Church with a reception to follow at 3:30 p.m. Arrangements by Billings Crematorium. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Western Heritage Center.
