ENNIS ? Stefanie Zankowski Sayler, 87, of Ennis passed away Thursday, July 15, 2004.
Stefanie was born to Joseph and Katherine Golinski in Czernowitz, Poland, the last of eight children on December 26, 1916. She married Joseph Zankowski and to that union, three children were born. After becoming a widow in 1945, she lived in Linz, Austria until 1956, when she and her two sons immigrated to Billings, Montana. She wed Adam Sayler in 1963; he preceded her in death in 1972. Stefanie lived and worked in Billings, retiring in 1964. Since 1994, Stefanie has resided in nursing homes, since 2001 in Madison Valley Manor. Gardening was her greatest interest and she excelled in growing beautiful flowers.
All her siblings and her parents preceded Stefanie in death. Stefanie is survived by children, Elizabeth Reifenauer, of Linz, Austria; Adolf Zankowski, of Munich Germany; and Wilhelm (Bill), Marcia Zankowski, of Ennis; nephew, Frank Golinski, of Westminster, Colo.; two nieces and one nephew, of Wels, Austria; 10 grandchildren, Laurie Holzer, of Roseville Calif., Donna Root, of Fargo N.D., Mike Zankowski and Heidi Christensen, of Billings, Anne Scott, of Green Acres, Wash.; Gerhart Reifenauer and Claudia Grebe, of Linz, Austria; Manfred, Sylvia and Harold Zankowski, of Munich, Germany; plus 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A Funeral Mass will be at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Billings, 11 a.m., Friday, July 30. Visitation will take place at the church from 10-11 a.m. Interment will follow the mass at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Billings. Memorials may be made to the Madison Valley Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 125, Ennis, MT 59729.
