Steven Nelson

1962 - 2025

Steven Baird Nelson, 63, passed away on August 24, 2025, in Roseville, CA, after a courageous year-long battle with lymphoma.

Born on July 14, 1962, Steve grew up in Billings, Montana. He graduated from Billings Senior High in 1980 and earned a B.S. Degree in Business from Montana State University in 1986. His professional journey began with Domino's Pizza as a District Manager in Montana before relocating to Sacramento, CA in 1988. Steve later followed his passion for martial arts by running the US Taekwondo Center in Roseville. His career evolved into technology training and project managing with Volt Services and culminated as an IT Specialist for the State of California DMV, where he worked for the past 14 years.

Steve's zest for life was evident from a young age. He was active in DeMolay and served as State Master Counselor of Montana in 1982–83. A 3rd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, he remained devoted to the sport throughout his life. He enjoyed playing pool, listening to country music, watching sports and MMA, and driving his convertible Porsche. Above all else, Steve cherished being a father and found his greatest joy spending time with his son.

He is lovingly remembered by his son Jesse Nelson and Jesse's wife Sneha; his sister Laura Daugherty and her husband Jeff; his niece Savanna Daugherty; aunt Betty Nelson; and cousins Fred Nelson, Patti Forsythe, Greg Sampson, Mark Sampson, Traci Drelen, Sue Miller, and Bruce Crowe. He was preceded in death by his parents Frederick J. Nelson and Dorothy Carr, and his sister Colleen Kearney.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Cochrane & Wagemann Funeral Home, 103 Lincoln Street, Roseville, CA.

Steve's humor, charm, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
