LAUREL - Yvette Marie Schmidt, 84, of Laurel, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2011. She was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Chicago, to Adoph and Delima Beaulieu, the youngest of 14 children.
Her early years were spent growing up in Montreal, Quebec. She learned English after moving back to Chicago as a teen. She spent her adult life as a waitress.
Yvette loved her family and spent many an evening playing cards for pennies with them. She also had a love for the horse races.
In her later years, she enjoyed shopping and buying "unusual" gifts for friends and family. She also fed every kitty that showed up at her door and not one of them went away hungry. Her cat Trenton was her constant companion for the last seven years of her life.
?Yvette was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Leonard M. Schmidt.
She is survived by the children she loved with all her heart: son Russell (Sandy) Schoop and daughter Regina (Mike) Gunderson; grandsons Chad (Tammy) and Chris Schoop and Jason (Lola) Macomb. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Sydney and Anthony Schoop and Ranzee and Scarlett Macomb.
The family sends a special thank you to Dr. Glenn Guzman and his nurse, Marlene, for the care they took of her over the years and her "angels" at Rocky Mountain Hospice whom she thought of as family.
