Albert was born at his family's farm south of Dawson,on March 28, 1937, to Peter and Alvina (Eichele) Dewald. He attended Liberty School, a one room schoolhouse near his home. He left school early to work on the family farm which was one of the joys of his life. Another joy of his life was his wife, Ramona (Bitz) Dewald who he married on Sept. 9, 1959, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. The couple farmed with Albert's parents for several years. Beginning in 1963, Albert worked for Kidder County as a blade operator while the couple lived in Tappen. In 1969, they moved their young family to Napoleon where Albert worked as a mechanic for a trucking company, operated a Skelly gas station and owned several buses which he ran for many years for Napoleon Public School. Albert was a co-owner of AA Lawn Sprinkling and the owner of Dewald Excavating. Albert made many memories with his family and friends while hunting, fishing, boating and camping. He loved to visit and tell jokes. He had a great sparkle in his blue eyes and made everyone laugh. The best sparkles were reserved for his grandchildren and great grandchildren who he referred to as his half pints. These kids brought such happiness to Albert.
Albert died Dec. 9, 2017, at the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, where he had been a resident for the past 5 years. He was 80 years old.
