Alice K. Johns, 73, Bismarck, died Sept. 22, 2013, at Sanford Health. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at St. George's Episcopal Church, Bismarck. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church
Alice Thompson was born Sept. 11, 1940, in West Union, Iowa, to Melvin and Bessie (Kohl) Thompson. She graduated from Marion High School in 1959 and then attended college and graduated from the Professional Business Institute in Minneapolis. She married Charles E. Johns, Oct. 7, 1961.
While Charles was in the Air Force, she worked numerous jobs until they settled in Bismarck in January 1982. She was the office manager for Radiation Oncology Associates for 17 years and retired Jan. 31, 1999.
Alice enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafts, bowling, playing cards and games. She was a certified Duncan ceramics teacher.
She was a member of St. George's Church in Bismarck and was a founding member of the Piece Maker's Quilt Guild at the church. She belonged to the New Comers Group of Bismarck and was very active in many different groups. She also belonged to the Capital Quilters and the Get it Done Someday Guild in Bismarck.
Alice is survived by her husband, Charles; her children, Brad (Gay Maxwell) Johns, Mandan, Lisa (Dan) Beckley, Bordulac, and Krista Reynolds, Bismarck; her grandchildren, Heather, Andy, Tyler, Mychael, Mitchell, Mac, Drew and Hayleigh and step-grandchildren, Shane, Shauna, Tyler, Brian and Danielle; six great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; her brothers, Doug (Karen) Thompson, Harlan, Iowa, and Dennis (Marcine) Thompson, DeForest, Wis.; her sister-in-law, Arlis (Miles) Anderson, Choteau, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
