RD was born Feb. 13, 1944, to Arthur and Katherine (Bruce) Hayes in Bismarck. After serving in both the Vietnam and Korean Wars, he resided in Mandan. He worked great with his hands and was a talented carpenter. If it was broken, or if something needed to get built, he could do it. There was nothing he couldn't do. He looked forward to hunting with his son, Tyler, fishing, cooking, baking, bingo and spending time with his beloved grandchildren, whom he adored, LaShae, Domonick and Aaron. He had a great love for country music, dancing and was able to play several instruments from the accordion to the drums. If there was a microphone and music, you could be sure RD would be at home. RD enjoyed riding and participated in several rodeos. He will be remembered as willing to help out anyone and having a heart of gold.
RD is survived by his beloved soul-mate of 26 years, Margie; his son, Tyler; his daughter, Shanna (Rob); and an honorary son, Ken (Veronica); seven brothers, Kelly (Darlene), Bob, Terry (Stacey), Marvin, Tom (Leashia), Gary and Courtney (Eva); two sisters, Eunice and Donna; many nieces and nephews; as well as his special friends whom he helped through the years from carpentry work, cooking and delivering food, or to just simply coffee and visiting.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; one brother, Duane; one sister, Colleen; three brothers-in-law, Doug, Edwin and Clifford; and two sisters-in-laws, Marvelena and Mary.
