Brian Morris Obituary

Brian Morris

Brian Cliffe Morris, 52, Bismarck, died July 1, 2008, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at Prairie Family Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Chuck Loftis officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Brian was born Jan. 12, 1956, in Denver, the second of four children of Leon and Zelma (Johnson) Morris. He graduated from West High School in Denver in 1974 and started his federal career as an electrical engineering draftsman with the Bureau of Reclamation. In 1977, he joined Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) headquarters office in Golden. While still working full time, he graduated from the University of Colorado at Denver in 1984 with a B.S. degree in electrical engineering. In 1992, he transferred to North Dakota as the Communication and Central Division Director and in 1996 was promoted to North Dakota Field Engineering Manager. In June 2008, Brian was awarded the Exceptional Service Award, WAPA's highest regional honor.

Living in North Dakota allowed Brian to continue his lifelong passions of fishing, hunting and the great outdoors. He especially loved hunting for the past 12 years with Taz, his favorite four-legged companion. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, rooting for the Packers and drinking beer with his buddies. He found the greatest joy in life with his family and friends.

Brian is greatly missed by his family, many friends and co-workers at WAPA.

After meeting in Cancun, Mexico, in August 1982, Brian married Patty Beadle on Oct. 9, 1983, in Las Vegas. They shared 24 years of fun-filled life together. Also grateful to have shared his life are his daughters, Ashley (John) Klebs, Plymouth, Minn., and Naomi (Craig) Brower, Aurora, Colo.; his grandchildren, Xzandrya, Hailey and Jacob Brower; his mother, Zelma Morris Williams, Wheatridge, Colo.; two brothers, Brad (Ella) Morris, Commerce City, Colo., and Darrell (Melodie) Morris, Aurora, Colo.; one sister, Cheryl (Tom) Chinn, Lakewood, Colo.; and special cousins, Robin Kirwin, Lakewood, and Jolynn Hall, Canyon City, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leon.

Best. Guy. Ever.

To Brian's family and friends: My condolences and sympathy. Such a great loss to endure. Brian was definitely one of the good guys. Please know, as others have already stated, that you are in our thoughts and prayers. May you find peace and comfort through these difficult times by remembering the man, the husband, the father and the friend and the wonderful ways he touched all of our lives.

I met Brian when Ashley and I were in high school. We always chose to hang out at the Morris', as Brian and Patty were both so welcoming towards us. Brian was like a father to us all.

I am shocked and upset at the news. He was a wonderful man, full of life and incredibly loving. I'll never forget the random stories he would pull out from his childhood, nor how he would challenge us at video games or Lord of the Rings trivia (and how we'd always beat him).

I will miss Brian so much, but I have so many good memories of him to cherish.

Ashley and Patty, know that you are ever in my thoughts and prayers.

Brian and I go way back. I think electricity was invented about then. He is the finest man I have ever had the
joy of working for. He had the unique ability of being able to be a firm manager and yet still have everyone as his friend. I really appreciated his support for the DOE Science bowl.
And I appreciate his leadership and his friendship.
Best Guy Ever!

Hell, I am not shy to say it. We loved the Hell out of him. He always covered our back. He went to war many times for us. Many times

And every day he would show up all full of joy and say Hi to everyone.

This is a tragic loss.

Brian's Family - I worked briefly with Brian at Western and am so saddened to hear of his passing - much too early! He was a kind soul who always had a smile - one of the good guys, who will be very much missed. You are all in my thoughts.

Dear Family,
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Brian's death. I have been retired from Western, Folsom, Ca. office since 2000 but still have so many fond memories of working with Brian. We did a lot of work setting up Western's Northern California communications systems. Brian was instrumental in getting these 2-way radio and microwave systems on line. Brian was very professional in all aspects and always so great to work with. I always felt like we had a special connection.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and all those that are grieving. He will be greatly missed.

Patty and Family,
I too have been blessed by knowing Brian. He was the kind of man who never passed over anyone. He made you feel important, even on those days when it was hard to feel that way. The Lord placed Brian in our lives for a very special purpose, very special to each of us. May knowing that folks from all over are here sharing the load placed upon you will give you comfort. I thank God for the opportunity to have known such a good man. Jim Uthe, Retired WAPA Realty Specialist, Castlewood, SD

Dear Patty and family,
I was deeply saddned to hear of your loss. I met Brian when he worked for Western in Colorado, and enjoyed seeing his smiling face when he returned. After hearing of his Exceptional Services Award, I was pleased to be able to congratulate him in person. As always, he had a smile on his face and time to talk to me. It was always obvious to me why he was promoted within Western. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I am so very sorry for your loss.

Dear Family,
I was saddened to learn of Brian’s death. I had the pleasure of working with Brian for years, especially during my time as Western’s Administrator from 1997 – 2006. I greatly enjoyed my visits to Bismarck, where Brian and I would discuss issues affecting Western and the industry. He always was able to see the big picture, as well as Western’s role in the transmission industry. Brian cared for his employees and the power customers. What I remember most is how he cared for his wife, his daughters, and his grandkids. We all will miss him, and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

To Brian's Family -
Brian was a good friend of my dad, Pete Hanson, WAPA in Denver. Our family will never forget the beautiful retirement party that Brian organized for my dad. Dad often spoke of Brian and what an excellent young man he was. We are all deeply saddened by his passing, and send our deepest regards to his family.

To Brian's family: I got to know Brian several years ago as he was the main point of contact with the United States Attorney's office while we worked on a case involving WAPA. Brian was the consumate professional and we all enjoyed working with him. Our thoughts are with you at this time.

I wasn't close to Brian, but had the opportunity to work with him on a number of occasions, as a fellow Maintenance Manager at Western. He was always extremely helpful and willing to assist in any way possible.

The main thing about Brian that always amazed me was that he seemed to be universally respected as a friend, coworker, and manager. In the challenging position he was in, this is a testament to his great character. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and coworkers. My condolences go out to his family.

I knew Brian for a very short period of time as an employee of WAPA. He always took time to say hello and ask how your day was going, with a smile and occasionally a joke to make you laugh. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this tragic time of loss. He will be greatly missed.
