Caroline Zachmeier Obituary

Caroline "Carol" Zachmeier

LITTLE FALLS - Caroline "Carol" Zachmeier, 86, of Little Falls, MN, formerly of Mandan, passed away February 24, 2024, in Little Falls, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 1, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with Father Joshua Waltz as celebrant. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Caroline was born on June 28, 1937, to Joseph and Clara (Kessel) Roth. Caroline grew up in Belfield, ND. After graduating from Belfield High School, she went on to business school in Rapid City, SD. After graduating, Caroline worked as an administrative assistant at Basin Electric. Caroline met her soulmate in 1961. Six months later, she married her husband, James Zachmeier. Together they had two daughters, Nancy and Kim, and Caroline became a stay-at-home mom. During this time, she went door to door selling Avon. Every Friday, she and her daughters would shop and have lunch until they moved out of state. Caroline devoted one day every summer to her daughters, they referred to it as "Kids Day". She always found a way to make birthdays and holidays special for her family. Her last employment was as an administrative assistant at the Morton County shop where she retired with over 15 years of service in 1996. She was a diligent worker. There was nothing she could not do. Not only academically, but also physically. Physical labor included but not limited to siding of their house, pouring cement, planted and cared for an abundance of trees. She would plant and maintain a vegetable and flower garden and orchard. Caroline canned a variety of produce and often made jelly.

Caroline had many hobbies including playing Solitaire every morning with her worn deck of cards. She was crafty and creative and enjoyed scrapbooking, painting whiteware, and photography. She loved working on the computer and taking classes to improve her knowledge. Reading was a favorite pastime. She was an accomplished crocheter. At the end of her days, she colored.

Caroline has two granddaughters, Brooklynn and Bryelle. You could physically see her eyes light up when they entered a room. Her daughters and granddaughters were her everything. Caroline was a gentle soul with a dynamic and feisty personality. She was known for always putting everyone she loved first in her life.

Caroline will be deeply missed by her daughters, Nancy and Kim Zachmeier; granddaughters, Brooklynn and Bryelle Freidig; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Jim Heck; niece, Jacki and Randy Monzelowski; nephew, Jerry and Sandy Heck; many brother and sister in-laws and nieces and nephews in the Zachmeier family; and many family and friends.

Caroline was preceded in death by her husband, James, in July 2020; her parents, Joe and Clara Roth; and brothers, Raymond and James Roth.
