Clifford Jacobs Obituary

HORACE -- Clifford S. Jacobs, 64, Horace, died Aug. 1, 1997, at his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Faith Lutheran Church, West Fargo. Burial will be in Horace Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services.

Clifford was born Aug. 6, 1932, at Tuttle the son of Carl and Stella (Olson) Jacobs. He graduated valedictorian from Tuttle and attended Valley City State Teachers College. He taught one year in a one-room school near Tuttle. Clifford then moved to Fargo and was employed by Sherwood Lumber in the heating department. He was a partner in forming Northwest Iron Fireman, a commercial heating company, later becoming sole owner for several years. He invented and patented the Sidewinder, a solid fuel burner, which sold in many states and as far away as Guyana.

Clifford retired in August of 1996 and enjoyed a season as a snowbird in Arizona. He was a private pilot and enjoyed flying, driving his antique cars and sailing on Big Cormorant Lake where the family cabin is located. He enjoyed buying or building ``toys' with motors for his children, grandchildren and himself. Among the endless list of treasured memories Cliff has left to all those who lived him is his outstanding gift of music. He played the piano, organ, accordion and guitar.

Clifford said goodbye to his loved ones and said it was his turn. He left this note written while in Rochester. ``Since I had my operation, April 24, 1997, which seems a long time ago, I have had wonderful support from my family. I can never thank them enough. As we travel through this journey of life, none of us knows what lies ahead. It is God's judgment, which we should not question. I was just wondering how many cars I have owned, and as I think over the years that have passed, I realized that God has given me a wonderful, interesting life.

He is survived by his wife, Doris (Gunderson) Jacobs; one sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Albert Schuler, Bismarck; two daughters and one son-in-law, Carol Jacobs, Hendrum, Minn., and JoAnn Gilbertson and Robin Johnson, West Fargo; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Monica, and Cliff and Kim, all of Fargo, and David and Pam, Harwood; two stepdaughters and spouses, Mary and Alan Vogel, and Delayne and Jeff Watne, all of West Fargo; three stepsons and two spouses, Paul Grinde, and Reggie and Candy Grinde, all of West Fargo, and Jim and Terri Grinde, Bismarck; and 23 very special grandchildren.

Among those welcoming Cliff to heaven are his parents, Carl and Stella Jacobs, and grandparents, Joe and Mary Gunderson.
