Dane West Obituary

Retired Colonel Dane Paul West, 65, of Natural Bridge, Va., died Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Born January 8, 1960, Dane was the son of Sam N. West and the late Anne Cammack West and preceding him in death, his in-laws, Ruben and Orla Anderson.

Dane graduated from Bismarck High School, North Dakota, in 1978, where he met his wife, Sheryl Lynn Anderson. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1979 and married Sheryl in 1980. After serving as enlisted until 1989, Dane was commissioned at Purdue University with a BS in Electrical Engineering, later earning two Master Degrees. He served as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer with F-15's, F-16's and F-22's culminating in a 35 year career. He served twice as a Squadron Commander, Deputy Group Commander and twice as a Group Commander.

He retired in 2014 to his beloved old farmhouse in Natural Bridge, Va. He was an active member of High Bridge Presbyterian Church, the Natural Bridge Ruritan Club and his local Food Pantry. He was a devoted father and 'Grandad'.

Dane is survived by his wife, Sheryl (Anderson) West; daughters, Sarah West Lobos of Maryland, Kristin Nicole West of Texas; grandchildren, Luke and Claire Lobos, of Maryland; siblings, Deb Colton of North Dakota, Kathy Roll of Minnesota; six brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Bosco.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, October 24, 2025, at High Bridge Presbyterian Church, Natural Bridge, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Natural Bridge Ruritan Club.

Dane died on my birthday. I knew him and I'm thinking we even went to Jr high together. It
was at Wachter. He was very smart and I remember nice to everyone. I'm very sorry for your loss.
