Deloris Chays

KILLDEER - Deloris Mae Chays, 73, Killdeer, passed away Dec. 6, 2006, at St. Joseph's Health Center, Dickinson. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MST Monday, Dec. 11, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Killdeer, with the Rev. Aanen Gjovik officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, north of Killdeer.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. MST Sunday at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel, Killdeer.

Deloris Mae Chays was born Feb. 8, 1933, in Killdeer, the daughter of William C. and Evelyn G. Random Lubke. She attended Oakdale school through the sixth grade, before finishing at Killdeer public schools, where she graduated in 1950. Later that year, Deloris began attending Dickinson State College and earned her Standard Degree of Teaching in 1952. Her first teaching job was in a one-room school house near the Killdeer mountains. Deloris later moved to Fairview, Mont., where she taught elementary school for a number of years, before teaching an additional eight years at Parshall elementary school. Deloris then worked at Northrop Manufacturing Plant, in Newtown, for over six years. In 1980, she moved back to Killdeer and began working at American State Bank and later at Farmers Home Administration office, until she retired in 1994. Even through these busy times, Deloris found time to help out at Nodak Mutual and Farm Bureau Office. Due to her health, Deloris spent her remaining years at Hill Top Home of Comfort, Killdeer.

Deloris loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed camping near Lake Sakakawea, baking, playing cards and always made time for arts and crafts.

She is survived by two sons, Randy Chays and Rodney Chays, both of Parshall; one daughter, Cheryl (Arlon) Fox, Killdeer; one sister, Lorraine (Les) Best, Big Horn, Mont.; four grandchildren, Jeremy Fox, Dawn (Grandon) Schneider, Danelle Fox and Lakisha Fox; and six great-grandchildren, Keauna, Kiara, Keandra, Dawson, Kaidence and Makiah.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents; and one brother, Arnold Lubke.
