Edie Berreth was born on April 6, 1938 in Kintyre to Herman and Rhonda (Johnson) Berreth. As a young girl, the family moved to Dawson where her family farmed east of town. She attended school in Dawson and graduated in 1955 – the salutatorian of her class.
After graduation, she moved to Bismarck and her first job was at Pattersen Hotel as a receptionist. In 1958, she married Paul Hojian and together they raised four children while residing in Dawson.
She loved her town Dawson and was involved in many community activities. She was always helping out where needed. She did various jobs, such as Blackjack dealer, PT postmaster, and city auditor for many years. If someone needed help with anything, Edie was there.
Edie never missed an episode of "Days of Our Lives" and loved bingo. She made two trips daily to the Dawson café for coffee and visiting. She enjoyed reading and gardening – lilies were her favorite flower. She loved going dancing and singing karaoke – especially to "Sweet Caroline." The family will miss her steamed dumplings!
After a three-year stay at the Napoleon Care Center in 2019 she entered the Baptist Care Center in Bismarck to be closer to her family. The family appreciates and thanks both facilities and their caregivers for the exceptional compassion they showed to Edie.
Edie is survived by her children, Randy (Marilyn) Hojian, Washburn; Michelle (Mark) Lee, LaHabra Heights, Calif.; Wendy Lang, Bismarck; son-in-law, Arlinn Hust, Tappen; grandchildren, Justin (Samantha) Lang, Dawson; Jessica Lang, Bismarck; Paula (Mark Michel) Hust, Jamestown; Erin (Jon) Every, Cheney, Wash.; and Joshua Hojian, Bismarck; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenny (Lucy) Berreth, Bismarck; Gerald "Butch" Berreth, Steele; brothers-in-law, Penny Hojian, Dawson; Alvin (Phyllis) Hojian, Steele; and sister-in-law, Harriet Finch, Lewisville, Texas.
