Eugene Getz

Eugene Getz, 91, of Strasburg, passed away at his home on April 16, 2021.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 21, at 10 a.m. at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with Father Shannon Lucht officiating. Myers Funeral Home of Linton will be streaming Eugene's service for any family and friends that can't attend at www.Myersfh.com under Eugene's obituary.

Burial will take place following the service in the Holy Trinity Cemetery, rural Strasburg.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with rosary starting at 7 p.m. at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg.

Eugene was born on the farm west of Strasburg on April 27, 1929 to Joseph and Mary Ann (Holzer) Getz. He was raised in Strasburg and educated in a country school. He married Irene Feist on June 17, 1952 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, rural Strasburg. They bought the Getz homestead in 1953 and farmed and milked cows for a living.

Eugene had a love for horses. There wasn't a horse he couldn't train. He especially loved driving a team of horses and giving rides in the wagon. Rodeos, dancing, playing cards, visiting, and spending time with his family was something he always enjoyed doing. He never met anyone he couldn't have a conversation with, they were all his friends. He served on the Beaver Valley Horse Club, Strasburg School Board, ASC Board, Strasburg Fire Department and Holy Trinity Cemetery Board. He was a member of Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Strasburg Wildlife Club and the Strasburg Lions Club.

Eugene is survived by one son Kenny (Terri) Getz, Jamestown, five daughters, Geraldine (George) Feist, Bismarck, Dorothy (Blaine) Doppler, Menoken, Barbara (Greg) Van Beek, Strasburg, Mary (Lynn) Henke, Center, Norma Getz, Strasburg; Grandchildren, Brian Getz, Keith (Kristi) Getz, Christy Meakins, Eugene Feist, Allan (Kylie) Doppler, Darrell (Tami) Van Beek, Chasidi (Teal) Plaine, Gregory (Brittney) Van Beek, Suzanne Van Beek, Dustin Henke, Kaitlyn Henke; Great Grandchildren, Brittney Getz, Oliver Delcoure, Logan Van Beek, Morgan Van Beek, Carson Van Beek, Beckett Plaine, Eleanor Plaine, Addison Plaine, Ella Van Beek, Easton Henke, Brynlee Schupman, Riggin Schupman; Great- Great- Grandchildren, Domenic Getz, Nova Getz, and Trinity Howard; One sister Margaret Feist, one brother Tony Getz, many nieces, nephews, cousins and too many friends to mention all by name.

Eugene was preceded in death by his wife Irene, daughter Constance (Connie) Meakins, grandson John Meakins, parents Joseph and Mary Ann; Sisters, Helen Vetter, Anna Marie Faith, Adeline Bohlin, brothers Pius, John, and Joe.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Tami Van Beek for answering dad's call for help whenever asked and heartfelt thank you to their sister Norma for caring and taking care of dad for all these years.

My condolences and prayers are with Geene's family. I have always visited
with Gene for many years at Polka Fests. He always asked me how things were
in education and out on the ranch. He was one of my personal friends and
Patty's before Patty went to heaven. Rest in peace Gene.
