Eugene Severson Obituary
Eugene "Gene" Robert Severson, devoted husband, friend, family member, educator and coach, passed away on December 24, 2025 at age 86.

My memory of Mr. Severson goes back to his 6th grade homeroom at Northridge. I remember he had a turntable behind his desk and that he would be playing Neil Diamond albums during free time. How thrilled he must have been through the years to hear "Sweet Caroline" sung during breaks at athletic events in stadiums and arenas around the country.
I also remember how Mr. Severson created two basketball teams, one Green and one Gold, to provide more kids the opportunity to play. We felt like Mr. Severson was giving us professional instruction. He kept statistics on our games, taught sportsmanship, and even had us passing behind our backs and spinning balls on our fingers. We thought we were the closest thing to the Harlem Globetrotters this side of Divide Avenue!
I looked forward to going to school that year, my first in a new city and new school. And what a powerful legacy for an educator - to motivate and inspire students to move forward in their lives.
I am grateful for Mr. Severson´s dedication to a life of teaching and coaching and for how he engaged generations of Bismarck students.

We loved Gene & Leann through sports card shows. And while living in Bismarck, John loved to visit at both of their getting their mail at their post office box meetings. They both loved the Yankees & coached their team from their recliners! He certainly was an influence in his sporting life especially respected for youth involvement. He will be missed by the both of us.
