Gary Lee Anhorn
BISMARCK - Gary Lee Anhorn was born on August 24, 1950 in Mandan ND to Raymond and Mildred Anhorn. He was the oldest and had three sisters, Peggy, Sandy, and Carol. As kids they played games outside often and their favorite was hide and seek in the Mandan Elevator. Even as a young man he worked hard to save money and buy a 1969 Z28 yellow and black Camaro right off the show room floor. From that point on he had a love for cars, especially muscle cars. He met Patricia Marshall who he married on August 28, 1971. They were married for over 52 years and raised three amazing girls, Nicole, Tiffany, and Courtney. He loved spending time teaching his girls everything he knew from baiting a hook, to checking the oil, and even how to cook a great steak. When his children were little, he loved to take them outdoors to camp, shore fish, ice fish, yardwork and teach them how to drive which is why they all have a led foot.
He retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad and spent his retirement years keeping busy with grandchildren, hobbies, and friends. He spent time fishing in tournaments, listening and dancing to music as well as playing guitar. He was a "forever" Minnesota Vikings fan and attended many games with his family. He had a love for classic cars and enjoyed attending car auctions, tinkering with them as well as racing them. Gary enjoyed spending time tending to his yard and early mornings catching up with friends in Bismarck, Mandan and the Sakakawea area over coffee and donuts. He had a special gift of making people laugh and smile with his stories, jokes, and fun personality. He would tell his children and grandchildren that if you're going to do something to do it right the first time. Hard work was something he demonstrated and instilled in all of them.
Gary Lee Anhorn passed away on May 7, 2024 surrounded by his loving family at Marion Manner in Glen Ullin, where he received outstanding love and care.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and other loving family members.
He was survived by his wife, Patricia Anhorn; sisters Peggy Benz and Sandy Prudente; children, Nicole (Scott) Becknell, Tiffany (Ryan) Boehm, Courtney (Lee) Fergel; six grandchildren, Taylor (Dawson) Wiest, Pacey Boehm, Leighton Fergel, Peyton Boehm, London Fergel, Teagan Becknell; and all his nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In honoring Gary's wishes there will be a prayer service privately with family and a celebration of life event in the summer at a time and date to be determined.
