Irene Buechler (Masset) was born on Sept. 21, 1935, on a farm 14 miles south of Linton.
She was one of eleven children born to Peter and Asteria (Nagel) Masset. She attended a rural grade school up to the eighth grade and then stayed home to work on the farm. In 1956, she married the love of her life, Carl Buechler Sr. Together they had three sons, Carl Jr., James and Gary.
Carl Sr. and Irene owned the Teen Center in Strasburg for several years. Later they owned Carl's Inn Bar in Hague. Irene was a cook at the Strasburg school and a well-loved CNA at the Strasburg Nursing Home. She enjoyed playing cards, attending daily mass, cooking German food and attending local basketball games. Most of all, she loved being with her family. She took great pride in remembering and celebrating all family birthdays and making sure she was the first one to wish a happy birthday. Irene remained living in her home in Strasburg until the time of her death.
Irene is survived by her sons, Carl (Gayla) Buechler, Bismarck, James (Mary) Buechler, Bismarck; six grandchildren, Ryley (Carol) Buechler, Trisha (Jeff) Baum, Carlie (Ryan) Malm, Jessica (Matt) Schultz, Brandon (Emili) Buechler, Jordan (Marlee) Buechler; eight great-grandchildren, Payton, Ava and Silas Schultz, Axel, Finn and Beckett Buechler, Owen and Hannah Baum; sisters, Anna Mary (Ray) Dockter, Tillie Holzer, Luella (Mark) Wangler; brother, Myron Masset; sisters-in-law, Delores Masset and Karyl Masset.
