Joan Ressler
Joan Esther Haas-Ressler, 85 of Bismarck, died peacefully on Oct 22, 2021, at CHI St. Alexius, Bismarck.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 28, at Church of Ascension, 1825 S. 3rd St., Bismarck, with Msgr. James Braaten as celebrant.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, at Eastgate Funeral Home, 2302 E. Divide, Bismarck with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
The family requests that funeral attendees wear masks.
Joan was born in Aberdeen, S.D., on June 19, 1936, to Frank and Maude Bosman. She was raised in Aberdeen and attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Aberdeen Central High School. Joan studied music with the Presentation Sisters and was a pianist/organist playing at church and school functions in Aberdeen. Following graduation from high school in 1954, Joan was employed by International Harvester Company's district office in Aberdeen.
Joan married Raymond J. Haas on Nov. 12, 1956. They lived in Fergus Falls Minn., Lidgerwood, Faulkton, S.D., Aberdeen, S.D., Moorhead, Minn., and moved to Bismarck in 1970. Ray passed away in 1975.
She worked for Haas International Sales and Service and the ND Catholic Conference for 22 years, and was an organist at Corpus Christi, Ascension and Cathedral of the Holy Spirit. She also volunteered at the State Historical Society.
On May 23, 1986, Joan married James V. Ressler in Bismarck; Jim passed away in 2016.
Joan is survived by her children, Mary (Brian) Kummeth, Pocatello, Idaho, John (Linda) Haas, White Water Wis., William (Karen) Haas, Bismarck, Peggy (Roger) Reinke, Lisbon; grandchildren, Beth (Charles) Block, Danielle (David) Stavlo, Kate (Matthew) Rothschiller, Kayla (Kyle) Helfrich, Timothy (Meghan) Larson, Gregory (Kelly) Larson, Kammy Larson and great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Jeremiah, Theodore, Charlotte, Rosemae and Finola Block, Weston, Tate and Thomas Larson; Madisyn, Ellie Mae and Lennon Larson; Payton and Beckett Rothschiller; Jane and Grace Stavlo and many nephews and nieces.
Joan was preceded in death by husbands, Raymond Haas and James Ressler; her parents, Frank and Maude Bosman; sister and brother-in-law, June and Mitch Winoker, and niece Stacey Windrich.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bismarck Cancer Center or a charity of your choice.
