John Rinkel Obituary

John James Rinkel

BISMARCK - John James Rinkel, 81, Bismarck and formerly of Pick City, ND, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.

John was born on February 28, 1943, in Valley City, ND to Silas and Thelma (Karn) Rinkel. He spent his early life traveling across the United States as an ironworker. Notably, John spent significant time in Alaska, where he developed a passion for the outdoors. John was known for his fascinating piece of whale baleen, a cherished item that sparked many conversations.

John owned a grocery store in Pick City, ND and became a familiar face in the community. On July 18, 1998, John married Davetta (Crimmins) Engel. They relocated to Bismarck, ND in 2016.

Throughout his life, John found joy in gardening, fishing, hunting, and the companionship of his beloved hunting dogs. He shared a love for gardening activities with his partner, Davetta, and they were especially proud of their successful moose hunt together. John and Davetta also spent a memorable trip to Alaska to reconnect with John's earlier years. He will be remembered for his unique and quirky spirit.

In honor of his life, family and friends from near and far are invited to join in a unique celebration of John. At 4 p.m. CST on Saturday, May 18, please raise a glass of your favorite beverage wherever you may be to remember John.

Memorials can be sent to Sporting Chance ND (PO Box 1156, Bismarck, ND 58502) in honor of John's passion for the outdoors and his love of hunting, fishing, and recreation.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Davetta Rinkel.
