Kenneth Gerhardt Obituary
Kenneth Valentine Gerhardt, 69, Mandan, passed away peacefully Oct. 7, 2017. Ken endured a three-year battle with MDS and leukemia. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church where there will be a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m., followed by the parish vigil. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Ken was born April 17, 1948, in Flasher, to Valentine and Beatrice (Berger) Gerhardt. He graduated from Flasher High School in 1966, Assumption College in 1968, and Dickinson State College in 1970. On June 10, 1972, Ken married Alice Jorgensen at St. Lawrence Church, Flasher. Ken worked for Grant & Morton County Social Services from 1970-2012, the longest serving Director of Morton County, 37 years.
Ken will be deeply missed by his wife, Alice; his sons, Russell (Annie), Devils Lake, Nathan (Bridget), Bismarck, Justin (Maren), Mandan, Tyler, Mandan, and Sheldon (Angela), Napoleon; 14 grandchildren, Brayden, Jenna and Mitchell; Cali and Brodie; Monica, Malayna, Michael and Matthew; Tayla and Karley; Joseph, Bennett and Clara; his siblings, James Gerhardt, Rosie (Eugene) Erhardt, William Gerhardt, Leonard (Delores) Gerhardt, Delilah (Harvey) Miller, Lawrence (Gloria) Gerhardt, and Robert (Loretta) Gerhardt; and in-laws James (Li) Mumey, Cynthia Wilson, Kathleen (Clair) Volk, and Georgine (David) Thomas.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Gladys Mumey; and his sisters-in-law, Victoria Gerhardt, Ellen Gerhardt and Marilyn Davison.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Christ the King School, or Med City Foundation, Rochester, Minn.
