Marian Helmenstein Obituary

Marian Helmenstein, 74, Bismarck, died June 20, 2005, at a Bismarck hospital. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Bismarck Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Nixon officiating.

Marian Ruth Solum was born Aug. 23, 1930, to Elmer and Eva (Gish) Solum in Bismarck. She attended school in Bismarck, graduating from BHS. She worked at Bell Telephone for many years. She married Eugene Grenz in 1949. She moved to Amorillo, Texas, where she then was married to Bud Robinson. After Bud's death, Marian returned to Bismarck, where she met and married Darrell Helmenstein. Marian worked for Carol's Ice Cream Shop for several years before deciding to stay home and take care of her six children. At age 55, Marian returned to college at BSC, receiving her Associate of Science degree in Medical Administration.

Marian was "gramma" to all neighborhood children and was most famous for her chocolate chip cookies. She loved to be with people, especially her children and grandchildren. She loved her family and pets with all her heart and made sure to telll them every day.

Marian is survived by five children, Marley (Hal) Bauer, Sharon Grenz and Donna Grenz, all of Bismarck, James (Kristy) Helmenstein, Mandan, and Kim (Kenny) Franklund, Wilton; one brother, James (Donna) Solum, New York; and one sister, Marjorie Monjellio, New Haven, Conn. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Eva Solum; her husbands, Eugene Grenz, Bud Robinson and Darrell Helmenstein; and one daughter, Brenda Robinson.
