Martin Groszhans, 72, Bismarck, died April 8, 2005, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Nate Keith and John Nicolai officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Martin was born Feb. 14, 1933, at Danzig, the son of Jacob and Emma (Iszler) Groszhans. He attended school in Danzig through the eighth grade and graduated from Ashley High School in 1951. In 1954, Martin entered the U.S. Marines and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, a charter member of the Germans from Russia Heritage Society and a lifetime member of the Elks.
Martin attended Interstate Business College in Fargo in 1956 and began working for Baldwin Martz, a CPA firm in Minot. He then worked for the North Dakota State Tax Department for 29 years and retired in 1994.
In 1956, Martin married Eunice Wahl. Eunice passed away in 1986. Martin married Betty Rolfson on Aug. 26, 1989, in Ashley.
Martin enjoyed fly fishing, especially in the mountains, photography, woodworking and having coffee with friends.
Martin was a very kind, accepting, honest and hardworking man. He was conscientious and detail oriented, both in his work and his personal life. Martin was generous and honorable and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Groszhans, Bismarck; his daughter, Holly Grosshans, Pompano Beach, Fla., and her son, Joshua Murray; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and John Westbee, Bismarck, and their children, Alexa, Arika, Ashley and Abby; his stepdaughter, Michelle Froeber and her husband, Kevin, West Fargo, and their children, David and Michael; his stepdaughter, Kristine Shea and her husband, Chad, West Fargo, and their daughter, Kaitlin; his brother and sister-in-law, Roman and Arlene Groszhans, Ashley; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eunice; and an infant brother, Robert.
