Mary McCarvel

Mary "Kathy" Kathleen (Loran) McCarvel, 74, Bismarck, died March 5, 2014, at a Bismarck care center. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 10, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Paul Becker officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Bismarck Funeral Home.

Kathy was born July 29, 1939, to Sebastian and Elizabeth Loran in Missoula, Mont. She was raised and educated in Missoula and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. Following high school, Kathy attended Modern Business College to develop secretarial skills. She worked for a dairy company as a secretary as well as a law office. Kathy was married to Philip C. McCarvel Jr. on June 24, 1961, in Missoula. She was a stay-at-home mom to eight kids and ran a home daycare from 1982-2004.

Kathy was a woman who put others before herself. Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She beat the odds of her cancer because of her faith, willingness to live and strength. She was an amazing woman and will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

She is survived by her daughters, Patty (Dave) Weisz, Carol (Mark) Froelich and Mary (Miguel) O'Connor, all of Bismarck, and Debbie (Dan) Dehne, Mandan; her sons, Mike (Lori), Waterloo, Iowa, Bryan (Toni), Richland Center, Wis., and Kevin (Angela), Kindred; her grandchildren, Cole, Shay and Gabriel Weisz, Jesse, Ally and Madison McCarvel, Kendra Froelich, Chanelle (Daniel) Moch, Tyler and Sloane Dehne, Brooks and Mitchell McCarvel, Jameson McCarvel and Illyana and Niya O'Connor; three great-grandchildren, Declan and Emerie Moch and Lilith Dehne; her brothers, Robert (Helen) Loran, James (Janet) Loran, John (Chico) Loran, Patrick Loran and Joseph Loran; and her sisters, Trisha Loran and Elizabeth (Jim) Van Nice.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Philip; infant son, Joe Pat McCarvel; one sister, Helen Loran; and foster daughter, Karen Price.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Baptist Health Care Center and St. Alexius Medical Center and Hospice for their care and comfort.
