LAMOURE -- Peter Feist, 90, LaMoure, died Oct. 22, 2003, at a LaMoure care center. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Selfridge, with the Rev. Bill Cosgrove officiating. Burial will be in Selfridge City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church.
Peter was born March 3, 1913, in Strasburg, N.D., the son of Anton and Francis (Volk) Feist. He moved to Selfridge in 1921, with his parents, and settled west of town on a farm. He was educated at Golden Wealth School, south of Selfridge.
On April 6, 1933, he married Della Slater. They made their home in and around the Selfridge area for the past 70 years. In 1934, he was involved in building Highway 6 from Fort Yates to the South Dakota State line. He was involved with trucking and hauled bricks to Fort Yates for the first dormitories, school and government buildings. He was engaged in farming, cattle ranching, mink ranching and owned and operated Feist Cash Market.
He served as mayor of Selfridge, and was a member of the Selfridge town board, Knights of Columbus, and was president of the Selfridge school board.
Peter enjoyed playing cards, gardening, collecting antiques, dancing, working and his 20 years of retirement in Arizona.
He is survived by his wife, Della; one son, Donald Sr., (Joan), Selfridge; two daughters, Darlene (Laurence) Walker Bozeman, Mont., and Della (Loren) Froehlich, Montpelier; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, John, Conrad, Anton and Daniel; four sisters, Kathryn Merck, Eva Bonagofsky, Elizabeth and Francis Wuitschick.
Peter was the last surviving member of Anton and Francis Feist family.
