Ray Ludlum Obituary

Ray Ludlum

September 25, 1966 - July 7, 2025

BEULAH - Raymond Merle Ludlum, 58, of Beulah, N.D., passed away July 7, 2025, after a brief and courageous battle with colon cancer.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. CT, on Friday, July 11, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beulah, with Fr. Thomas Grafsgaard officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Beulah.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. CT, on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with a vigil service and rosary at 6 p.m.

Ray was born September 25, 1966, in Paw Paw, Mich. He was the third child of Robert Ludlum, II and Lynda (Allen) Ludlum. His early childhood was spent in Paw Paw before the family moved to Kansas to be closer to family. They eventually moved to Bismarck/Mandan, N.D. in his early teen years where he attended Mandan High School.

He met his wife Kay Ann Duppong in Minneapolis through mutual friends. They were married October 6, 1990, at St Mary's Catholic Church, Bismarck. This union was blessed with three children. Ray was dedicated to his family and joined the Catholic faith in 2020.

Ray began his employment with McDonald's in Mandan where he attended the McDonald's management program beginning his management career. After his move to Minneapolis, he returned to management at McDonald's. Eventually he transferred to Arby's where he earned the Triple Crown award while managing the Apple Valley store and this also included a trip to Hawaii. After that time, the family moved to Mandan to be closer to family.

Upon moving to Mandan, Ray worked at Sykes doing tech support and also management work. At Sykes, his love and knowledge for computers grew. He also tried his hand as an electrician's apprentice, gaining many handy skills. He finally settled into truck driving until moving to Beulah. In Beulah he found a homestead property in need of his handyman skills.

Ray loved to hunt and fish. He spent many years with his son, Kevin, working through Boy Scouts where Ray gained many memorable experiences and made a plethora of friends. He was an overall handy man and could be found working on home repairs, remodeling, and finishing off the basements in two of his homes. He spent the last few years in Beulah restoring his current residence and its barn with hopes of managing a small homestead farm that included sheep. His true love was his 1973 Satellite Sebring Plus that he restored as a teenager with friends, specifically Tim, and again restored it a second time with his son.

Ray is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kay Ann; and his children, Mindy (Alex) Lipetzky, Port Orchard, Wash., Shelby (Joe) Alsgaard, Casper, Wyo., and Kevin Ludlum (Beulah); grandchildren, Addison, Aspen, Leon, and Gwendolyn; his mother, Lynda Ludlum; brothers, Robert, James, and Michael; brother-in-law, Lowell Duppong; and sister-in-law, Jennifer Duppong.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Ludlum, II; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Donna Duppong.

Arrangements are conducted by Barbot Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen.
