Robert "Bob" Germann passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, at the age of 94, just two weeks short of his 95th birthday. Rosary services will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. today, Dec. 18, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive with Father Francis Schreiber officiating. Military honors will be presented following the Mass of Christian burial at the church. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Bob was born on Dec. 26, 1924, on the family farm six miles north of Rhame, a son of Robert Otto and Barbara Ann (Schneider) Germann.
Bob entered the United States Army on Nov. 16, 1943, where he served as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne. After a long recovery from serious war injuries in Europe, he was finally able to return home to North Dakota.
After returning home Bob married Viola Heinert on Jan. 6, 1951, and together they raised four daughters. Bob's career as a long distance truck driver took him and his family to many different locations, including: Dickinson, Glendive, Mont., Great Falls, Mont., Riverside, Calif., Vinita, Okla., and Cincinnati, Ohio.
After retirement Bob and Vi continued to travel in their fifth wheel from the 1980's to 1995 before settling back in Glendive where they remained. In his spare time Bob enjoyed woodworking projects and home remodeling projects (although he much preferred the role of supervisor in those projects).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Barbara; and his wife Viola; and eleven siblings.
Bob is survived by his four daughters, Marcia Germann, Grand Terrace, Calif., DanNea Germann, Beaumont, Calif., Cyndi Germann, Strasburg, and Tami (Frank) Freas, Glendive; grandchildren, Dana (Richard) Judge, Dean Eastman, Risa Carmello, Brandi (Frankie) Fuimaono, Adam (Heidi) Fairchild, Robert Clarke, David (Tahnia) Clarke, Stephen Clarke, Erica (Tyler) Gorder, and Jonathan (Hannah) Freas; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
